A Cup and Friendly Friday

A Cup and Friendly Friday

We've actually got competitive football tonight- and a couple of friendlies. Here's our guide

Competitive football is here again, even though it's Friday! Tonight South East side Burgess Hill Town are the first Pitching In Isthmian club to kick a ball in anger this season, as they travel to take on Spelthorne Sports.

The hosts, of Combined Counties Premier South, finished last season in seventeenth place- although they would have been two places better off had they not had quite a lot of points deducted for fielding an ineligible player. Hill will be their third Sussex Cup opponent in a row, and they left the competition in the Preliminary Round last season after a seven-one defeat against Newhaven. They are yet to progress past the First Qualifying Round.

This is only the second time that Hill have had to enter the competition at this stage- the first was last season, when they reached the Second Qualifying Round. This appears to be the first ever meeting between the two sides.
