A Sittingbourne substitute masterclass
The Brickies close to within two points of the Pitching In Isthmian South East summit after scoring four second half goals
Sittingbourne were giant slayers for a fifth time this season on Saturday, knocking National League South side Enfield Town out of the FA Trophy, but it back to the promotion race yesterday evening, the Brickies heading to Herne Bay.
Sittingbourne’s away form wasn’t as good as their home form- but it wasn’t likely to be given they’d won every match they’d played at home! Despite that, they made the trip to the seaside with only one league defeat on the road, full of confidence, and aware that they’d scored four goals against their hosts as recently as October 22nd.
The match remained goalless until twenty three minutes from time, but what happened next was a masterclass in the art of the impact substitute. First, Ryan Kingsford, who had been on the field only seven minutes, gave the Brickies the lead. Jack Steventon quickly made it two, and then Henry Sinai, who had emerged from the bench thirteen minutes earlier, added a third. In added time Jay Beckford, nine minutes after making his bow, added a fourth.
The Brickies-won both encounters between the sides last season, too- moved to within two points of leaders Ramsgate.
