A titanic top two tussle!

A titanic top two tussle!

Kingstonian host Farnham with ten points between them- but we’ve crucial matches at both ends on our South Central Saturday

Kingstonian host Farnham Town at Raynes Park Vale, ten points between them at kick off- however given the K’s have two games in hand victory in this one could be the spark that introduces that cat to the pigeons! Kingstonian have been slowed up by home postponements- they haven’t played a home match since the last day of November- and by defeat at Uxbridge last Saturday, whilst Farnham have only one defeat from ten and have actually been better on the road than at home, winning eleven of twelve on their travels.

Third place Ascot United have been quite magnificent of late, and take an eleven match unbeaten run to Westfield, looking for a fourth win in a row- the last three wins coming with clean sheets. The Yellas are behind second place Kingstonian only on goal difference, whilst Field have slipped to twelfth after only one win from their last nine matches.

Uxbridge slipped to fourth after a New Years Day draw with Harrow Borough, but are only a point behind Kingstonian and Ascot United and are having a fine season, and have lost only one of their last ten matches. They hit the road to Carshalton, where they take on struggling Sutton Common Rovers, their hosts in the bottom four and a point from safety after a run of two wins- and seven defeats- from their last ten. They are hoping to avoid a fourth defeat in a row.

A run of ten matches which have seen only two defeats have lifted Hayes and Yeading United into the top five, and they are looking for a third win in a row as they head to Binfield. The Moles are six points above the drop zone and lost narrowly to Ascot United on New Years Day. But looked very good in hammering Horndean last weekend.

Hartley Wintney have lost two out of three since Christmas, the latest defeat a three-nil reverse at Rayners Lane on New Years Day. The Row have slipped out of the top five but are only a point away from fifth place, and will hope to get back into the play off places as Horndean come to call. The Deans are on a terrible run, occupying fifteenth place after losing their last three rather heavily, conceding sixteen goals in the process.

Harrow Borough, four points away from fifth place, host Raynes Park Vale, one point and two places further back. Borough seem to have got back on an even keel, losing only one of five, but haven’t yet recaptured their early season form; whilst Vale have won their last two and are also looking more like their old selves.

Hanworth Villa have suddenly slipped down to eighth place, four points away from the top five spot they used to occupy. A five match winless run which brought four defeats in a row before their late equaliser at Ashford Town on New Years Day are the cause, and they will hope to get back to winning ways as Leatherhead travel to West London, the Tanners six points further back but on the up, with only one defeat from their last seven.

Rayners Lane moved into the top ten with a hammering of Hartley Wintney on New Years Day, and will hope to make it three wins from three as they head to South Park Reigate. Lane’s weakness this season has been that they don’t travel well- only one win on the road- whilst the Sparks have been better at home but recently haven’t been very good anywhere, and are looking to avoid a fifth successive defeat. They start 2025 only one point above the bottom four.

Southall host Guernsey at Burnham. The All start the weekend in thirteenth, courtesy of an inconsistent campaign during which they’ve been very good on occasions, but never for very long. They are looking to avoid a fifth successive defeat, whilst the Green Lions have suddenly picked up, two wins from three- the last of which came in a seven goal thriller against Sutton Common Rovers on New Years Day, courtesy of a winner deep in added time. They are four points from safety and have won only once on the road.

Moneyfields welcome Ashford Town to Portsmouth, both sides on the up. The Moneys are looking for a fourth win in a row, whilst the Tangerines may be two points from safety but are four unbeaten, and indeed have lost only three of their last ten. A home win could perhaps lift Moneyfields into the top ten, an away win could lift the Tangerines for the first time in three months.

Finally, bottom side Badshot Lea are at home once more, Met Police making the trip. The Baggies have looked improved of late but still find themselves twelve points from safety, and if they have any chance of survival improvement needs to start translating into victories, and they’ve had only one of those all season. Met lost narrowly at Moneyfields last Saturday, but prior to that had delivered two impressive performances which had delivered six points and lifted them up the table. That said, they are only two points above the bottom four, so could easily find themselves in trouble again if the Baggies finally find their bounce.
