Athletic delight as the Robins climb to sixth- whilst Westfield get back to winning ways

Carshalton Athletic’s fine home form continues in the Premier, whilst South Central Westfield squeeze the Moles

The last time a Carshalton Athletic fan was forced to leave Colston Avenue feeling rather down in the dumps was back in August, and that one-nil defeat against Dartford remains their only home defeat of the campaign- in any competition. Since that date eleven sides have made the trip to South London, and nine of them have left with nothing at all to show for their endeavours- the latest side to join that list Potters Bar Town, who fell to a two-one defeat last night.

On eleven minutes Bryan Ifeanyi was fouled in the box, and up stepped David Smith, continuing the fine start to his Robins career by scoring from the spot, his fourth goal in six matches. The traveling Scholars have hit rather a sticky patch, and made the journey looking for a first League win in six, but they were quickly level, striker Brandon Adams maintaining his record of a goal every two matches with his sixth of the season only five minutes later- but Ifeanyi wasn’t to be denied, and six minutes before half time restored home advantage, Smith the provider this time.

The second half saw plenty of endeavour and a number of efforts on goal, but none of them were quite as accurate as they had been before the break, so the scoring, as it turned out, had ceased.

Athletic are up to sixth place in Pitching In Isthmian Premier, three points behind fifth place Lewes, whilst Potters Bar slip to ninth.

In Pitching In Isthmian South Central we also had some Monday Night football, as Binfield welcomed Westfield. The Moles were awarded our Manager of the Month Award for October, and just prior to the announcement had won their sixth match in a row- but since then they’ve fallen to four defeats, so it must have come with a curse! Visitors Westfield had settled into a pattern, their previous six matches seeing a win followed by a defeat followed by a win, and they kept that going, recovering from Saturday’s loss at Southall to score the only goal of the game. That goal went to Luke Elliott, and it came six minutes before half time, the visiting skipper rising for an aerial ball alongside home keeper Coleridge Fubler and getting to it first to head his side in front.

It was Elliott’s first goal of the season, and it was enough to send his side up to ninth- only one point away from the top five. The South Central play off race could hardly be tighter- we have four points between Raynes Park Vale in third and Hayes & Yeading United in tenth, three points between fourth and tenth.
