Bay win a seven goal thriller, whilst the Bears and the Nuts and Bolts are also victorious
Ashford’s good run continues, Heath win a derby, Bay come from behind, and Ites win in the cup
Ashford United have suddenly clicked into gear, and the Nuts and Bolts travelled to Deal Town looking for a fourth win in a row. They were very quickly in front, Preston Kedwell scoring after just six minutes- his first of the season- and the second came from a rather more familiar source, Gary Lockyer taking his tally up to eighteen only three minutes later. The hosts halved the arrears seven minutes into the second half, Macca Murray, who scored two penalties at the weekend, scoring another one to get them back into the match. That was as good as it got for the hosts, and United climb into the top ten.
Eastbourne Town welcomed Broadbridge Heath for a Sussex derby, the hosts looking for a fourth win in a row, the Bears to build on Saturdays win over Lancing. The match saw only one goal, and it arrived thirteen minutes from time, James Archard giving the Bears three more points and lifting them to eleventh in the table.
Herne Bay and Three Bridges met at the seaside, and Bridges made the breakthrough after just eight minutes, Ben Holden scoring from the spot. The rest of the first half belonged to the hosts, Kane Rowland levelling on nineteen minutes and Michael Salako quickly putting his side ahead, but in the early stages of the second half Francis Junior Ze levelled for the visitors, and then only one minute later Reece Hallard put Bridges in front once more.
Bay didn’t give up, and eleven minutes from time they were awarded a penalty, which Kane Haysman- who had only been on the field six minutes- put away. Haysman was very much the game changer, as two minutes from time he turned what had looked like defeat into victory, scoring a winner and lifting his side to sixteenth.
We had an all-South East tie in the Velocity Cup, as two of our promotion chasers, Margate and Sheppey United, met in the Third Round. Gate went ahead on twenty five minutes, Brandon Davey breaking the deadlock, and they still held that lead at half time, but not for much longer. Six minutes into the second half Victor Aiye levelled for the Ites, and then Gil Carvalho took over. The United number eleven scored on fifty seven minutes- and within eight minutes had claimed the match ball, scoring his sides third on sixty one minutes and fourth from the spot four minutes later.
Two minutes from time Jordon Ababio scored a second for Gate, but by then the match was as good as over. An added time red card for the Ites Rhys Wyborn made no difference to the outcome.
