Craig Edwards leaves Cheshunt after more than seven years at the helm

Cheshunt yesterday announced the departure of manager Craig Edwards.

Craig has been in charge for more than seven years, and led the side to two promotions- both delivered via memorable Play Off victories. The 21-22 campaign was particularly magnificent, as the Premier Division Play off Final win over Hornchurch followed a club record run to the Fifth Round of the FA Trophy, a run which eventually came to an end in narrow defeat at Stockport County.

Chairman, Dean Williamson, explained in a club statement:

“This announcement is made with a heavy heart. After the game, Craig and I had an emotional conversation. He shared that he believed he had assembled a squad more than capable of achieving promotion this season. However, he felt that the time had come for a fresh face to bring new ideas and energy to help Cheshunt FC progress in the right direction.

On behalf of the entire club, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Craig for his tremendous contribution and service over the years. In the fullness of time, Craig will be remembered for his unprecedented success, and his tenure as one of the greatest eras for Cheshunt FC. We created magical moments that will live long in the memory and helped grow our fan base. Craig deserves a fitting send-off, and I hope that, in time, the club and our real fans get the opportunity to say a true thank you and goodbye for his hard work, honesty, friendship, and care. His legacy will not be forgotten, and he will always be a part of the Cheshunt family.”

Craig was previously in charge at Kingstonian, Billericay Town, Ware and Grays Athletic, amongst others.
