Farnham increase their lead as K’s are rained off
It was a day of wind, water and mud as Farnham, Hartley, Villa, Uxbridge, Ascot and Harrow defied the elements to win
Farnham Town, with only one defeat all season, were looking for a fifth consecutive victory as they travelled to Imber Court- and hoping to extend their lead over second place Kingstonian, whose game was postponed. Town were made to fight for their win over the Boys in Blue in September, squeezing home two-one, but they weer quickly ahead in this one, Sam De St Croix scoring after just nine minutes. A minute into the second half it was two-nil, Shay Brennan doubling the visitors lead, and just before the hour Mark Waters made it three. Here’s where the story ends, with Farnham opening up a four point lead at the top. Image: LJP Photos.
Third place Raynes Park Vale were perhaps unlucky to lose at Farnham last week, and wanted to get back to winning ways as they hosted Ascot United, but the Yellas, only two points behind and looking for a fourth win in a row, took the lead after just four minutes, Ben Harris the scorer. Vale were level by the break, Kyen Nicholas with the equaliser on thirty nine minutes, and ten minutes into the second half the visitors went down to ten men, Josh Oloyade-Edwards dismissed. Were the ten men downhearted? Not a bit, and ten minutes later they restored their lead, substitute Taylor Morgan making it two-one. Could they hold on for a fourth win in a row? They could, and are outside the top five only on goal difference, Vale dropping to seventh.
Hartley Wintney ended a four match losing run by defeating South Park Reigate last weekend, and hoped to continue that run- and perhaps climb to third- as Southall came to call. The All had won four in a row until they met Metropolitan Police on Wednesday night, falling to a two-one defeat, and were looking for a quick return to form- but it was The Row who made the breakthrough, Conor Lynch on the half hour with the goal. They added a second eleven minutes from time, Lamar Koroma the scorer, and they held onto that lead to indeed go third.
Hanworth Villa were looking for a third win in a row as they travelled to Portsmouth to take on Moneyfields, but their hosts were confident, not only because they were also looking for a third win in succession but because they defeated a Portsmouth FC side three-nil in a local cup game in midweek. The Villains went ahead seven minutes before half time, Sam Mead the scorer, but the Moneys hit back with twenty minutes to go, James Franklyn the scorer, and within five minutes were ahead, Steve Ramsey scoring from the spot. The visitors weren’t happy with that and quickly equalised through Sam Merson, and then, four minutes into added time, the Villains won the match- Alex Body making it three-two. Three red cards- Ali Mansaray for the Villains, Jack Lee and Callum Smart for the Moneys- ended the contest, but the visitors had the points and fourth place.
Uxbridge were on the road to Cobham to take on Ashford Town. Our sixth place side had lost only one of their previous ten league fixtures, whilst the hosting Tangerines had gone eight without a win, but it was the hosts who made an early breakthrough, Tristan Francois Vernal scoring after eight minutes. Uxbridge drew level in the early stages of the second half, George Moore the scorer, and the same player made it two-one on the hour, taking his tally for the season up to eleven. What they had, they held- and climbed to fifth.
Harrow Borough had hit a rather large bump in the road, and hosted Sutton Common Rovers having lost their previous five league matches- which is why they had slipped to eighth. Borough went ahead on eighteen minutes, Jethro Odumosu the scorer, and they doubled their lead in the early stages of the second half, Tyrese Osbourne with the second. Harry McCorkell added a third with twenty one minutes to go, and then Rovers hit back through Troy Walters- but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Borough stay eighth- but are only two points away from third!
Westfield welcomed South Park Reigate to Woking Park. The hosts had seen their previous seven matches go in a W-L pattern, and hoped to end that as the next one in the sequence was an L- but it didn’t start well for them, as Andy Somo scored for the Sparks on twelve minutes, his first goal for the club. The hosts drew level on the half hour, Jack Beadle the scorer, and that turned out to be that. Field are ninth, the Sparks nineteenth- and still without an away win.
Hayes and Yeading United, in tenth place, were only two points away from the top five at kick off, which perhaps demonstrated just how tight the play off race is. United were at home to Leatherhead, the Tanners down in sixteenth and closer to the drop zone than the top five, and the hosts deepened the Leatherhead malaise on seventeen minutes, Kaylen Hinds the scorer, only for the visitors to quickly hit back, Kane Fitzgerald scoring from the spot. Just before half time Hinds struck again, making it two-one, but again the tanners struck back, and ten minutes from time Ruben Bartlett-Antwi drew them level once more, his first goal for the club after arriving from Basildon United. That was that, a point each the outcome, United still tenth, the Tanners up to fourteenth.
