Highlights: Lewes 2 Whitehawk 1
Five games, five wins- but the Rooks left it late to seal victory
Our leaders Lewes were basking in the glow of their one hundred percent start to the season as Whitehawk came to call, and they were still able to pat themselves on the back at the end- but goodness, they came within moments of dropping points for the first time. It was the Hawks contingent in the one thousand, seven hundred and fifty nine at the Dripping Pan who did the celebrating in the first half, as Chris Whelpdale, superb for the hosts last season, scored his first Whitehawk goal to silence those who used to pay him worship. The visitors held the lead at half time, but not for much longer, Danny Bassett’s third of the campaign seeing the Rooks level on forty nine minutes, but it seemed that the side from the seaside had taken a useful point when, right at the end, up popped substitute Josh Williams to claim all three for the hosts.
