Hornets lead the way in a Tuesday night goalfest

We had four matches, and at least four goals in each of them, as Horsham, Chatham, Cheshunt and Wingate took the points. Billericay win in the Velocity Cup

Horsham made it five wins in a row as they hammered Whitehawk by five goals to nil as the Fusion Aviation Community Stadium. The first goal for the Hornets arrived on twenty two minutes- just two minutes after the visitors saw Tarik Moore-Azile leave the field with a serious injury- and it went to Lee Harding, whose effort took a deflection off Shamir Fenelon before finding the net. Seventeen minutes of stoppage time were added, and the Hornets went two up in the fourth minute of those, Reece Myles-Meekums firing home, and thirteen minutes into added time Fenelon got a goal of his own. Just before the half time whistle was scheduled to finally blow, Ola Ogunwamide added a fourth.

The second half was something of an anticlimax considering what had gone before it, the final goal of the game arriving nineteen minutes from time, but the strike from James Hammond, who found the top corner from distance, would have been worthy of winning the match on its own. The Hawks had no luck from start to finish, whilst Horsham are up to tenth.

Cray Wanderers might just be starting to worry about their league form. Wands kicked off against Chatham Town last night already six points from safety, and whilst there are many matches to go one win from eight and only four points on the board was hardly the start to the campaign they hoped for or expected. The ‘new ground boost’ that often arrives when clubs get a home of their own has been sadly missing so far.

Last night’s visitors, Chatham Town, have hardly had a positive start to the campaign themselves, but they looked much more like last season’s Chats as they swept to a four-one win. Freddie sears was the chief architect of their victory, with a nine minute hat trick which was bisected by half time, his goals arriving on thirty eight, forty one and forty seven. The Chats were already ahead when he scored the first of those, Sid Nelson heading home on thirty six minutes, and it was three-one at half time as Stefan Ilic did get one back for the hosts a minute before the break.

Chatham are up to fourteenth, Wands prop up the rest.

Wingate and Finchley climbed to eighth as two goals in the last twenty minutes finally saw off Bowers and Pitsea’s resistance. The Blues opened the scoring on just four minutes, Ryan Lowe the scorer, but their Essex visitors were level seven minutes before half time, Jacob Bland with the equaliser. That was that until the seventieth. Minute, Ogo Obi scoring his tenth of the campaign to put the hosts ahead once more, and they made sure of the points four minutes from time when Tyrese Briscoe, on for a debut from the bench, made it three-one. Bowers are second from bottom.

Cheshunt saw manager Craig Edwards depart at the weekend, but bounced back from that disappointment and won for the first time since the opening day by defeating Hastings United in Sussex. The Ambers were given an enormous helping hand by their hosts midway through the first half as United keeper Louis Rogers was sent off, and, although they were a goal down by then- Freddie Legg with the opener on eight minutes- immediately levelled through Vas Vasiliou, and Vasiliou gave them the lead five minutes later. It was three-one at half time, Hassan Nalbant with the third for the visitors, and although the ten men set up an exciting end to the match when Finley Chapman pulled a goal back nine minutes from time, the visitors held on for three valuable points.

Velocity Cup Third Round

Dulwich Hamlet welcomed Pitching In Isthmian South Central side Binfield and made a large collection of changes, with only Max Hudson of the side that started against Hastings United on Saturday kicking off against the Moles. Hamlet were quickly made to pay for those changes, as Mitchell Parker put the visitors ahead after just three minutes, and on thirteen Rahzir Smith-Jones added a second. Six minutes into the second half Lorenzo pulled a goal back for Hamlet, but their chances of a comeback departed when Parker made it three-one eight minutes from time, and in added time the visitors got a fourth, Connor Jeanes rounding off a memorable night for the visitors, four-one the final score.

Billericay Town hosted Basildon United in an Essex derby. The first half was close, only a De-Carrey Sheriff goal for the Blues separating the sides at half time, but after the break the hosts took control. Sheriff added a second from the spot on fifty six minutes, and although Darren Esuka quickly got one back for the visitors Frankie Merrifield and Tyrell Miller-Rodney then emerged from the bench to round things off with a goal each, four-one the final score.
