Isthmian Supporters Predictions: Mildenhall Town

Isthmian Supporters Predictions: Mildenhall Town

Mildenhall Town’s voice is provided by James Sergeant

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

James gives us a view from Mildenhall

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Our away following at Ely was something special. Adam Capel, our centre back who looks like The Head from Art Attack,  brought along 50 friends and family. The excitement of our runs in the FA Cup and FA Vase. Leading the league pretty much from start to finish. Twinny's halfway line goal. The demolition job at Dereham. Sealing the title at our local rivals, Lakenheath, on Easter Monday with 4 games left to play. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme belting out of the changing rooms after every win.

2. And what was the worst moment?

The second half showing at Romford in the Vase - they went on to win the competition. That's cup football I guess!

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

A few contenders for this one. Adam Capel (The Head) was rock solid all season long. Butch alongside, when he wasn't sunning it up in Tenerife, was exceptional. Popey, brother of Newcastle's Nick, was his usual irrepressible self between the sticks. I believe our defensive record was the best in the country. Ando and JK bossed most midfield opponents, Jarid bagged 20+ goals and Hughesy upfront showed his class and higher level experience, despite drawing his pension from January. Our standout player, however, was Benny Nolan. Double figures in the goals tally from right back, a real engine, he even ran the marathon at the tail end of the season. Club legend.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

We haven't had many come or go, but the lad Swift looks a good addition up top. I'm expecting big things again from Jed, Nolan, Ando & Capel, and the most experienced players in the squad won't less us down.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

First target must be survival, but I am hopeful of a top 14 finish.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

We have received plum fixtures with Bury Town over the Christmas and Easter periods. We should be looking at 400+ fans for our home game and maybe closer to 1000 when we visit Bury. We might top this number if Adam Capel brings all of his friends and family once more.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

We haven't visited many for years as we've been playing at Step 5, but when we last played at this level, Bury Town was a standout. I've been down there more recently and the pitch is of a professional standard, the crowds are big and the beer is good.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

Newmarket Town, new to the league, are a good shout here. They have a huge burger which will give you a heart attack, but tastes unbelievable. The club have told me it is pure coincidence that horses who have run poorly at the Rowley Mile and July racecourses have been spotted near the club kitchen!

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Grays Athletic, Felixstowe & Walton United, Bury Town, Heybridge Swifts, Brentwood Town
