Jammers end their winless run- and leave the Millers in the doldrums
Eight without a win at the start- but Maldon and Tiptree pick up all of the points at Parkside
Maldon and Tiptree headed to Parkside last night playing the role of second favourites, the Jammers having picked up their first point in eight matches with a draw at Lewes on Saturday. Their hosts, Aveley, had also been on a poor run, a five match winless run of their own coming to an end as they defeated Chatham Town on Saturday, but the hopes of the home faithful that victory would be the start of an upturn in fortune were quickly dashed.
Maldon were actually looking for a double, having defeated the Millers with a much different side earlier in the campaign. Indeed, both teams were greatly changed from their encounter on August 11th, and had different personnel in the dugout, too.
The visitors took the lead eleven minutes before half time, with Jamie Bennett opening the scoring - his first goal in Maldon colours. It was a lead they held until twenty three minutes from time, Kymani Thomas rifling home an equaliser- his first for the Millers, but the last word was yet to be uttered, and it was Tom Eastman doing the shouting.
The Jammers earned a corner, and when the ball was swung into the box there was the defender, rising highest and heading home beautifully to send the points back to Maldon- and to lift his side to seventeenth in the table.
Aveley find themselves only one place- and one point- better off, in sixteenth, as they ended the second of a run of five consecutive home matches without anything to show for their efforts. The Millers are in FA Trophy action on Saturday, Carshalton Athletic making the trip; whilst Maldon are back on their own patch in League action, Dulwich Hamlet making the trip.
