One point between the top five as the Yachtsmen hold on for victory

We had a packed Pitching In Isthmian North programme, and victories for Wroxham, Regent, Canvey, Little Oakley, City, Stow and the Jockeys

Wroxham were four without a win as they travelled to take on an AFC Sudbury side who were six unbeaten. The Yachtsmen made an early breakthrough, Shaun Taylor scoring on twelve minutes, and quickly added a second through Ryan Hawkins. Six minutes later it was three-nil and that Yellows unbeaten record seemed to be a work of fiction, Hawkins striking again, but they did get one back just before the break, Scott Sloots the scorer. On the hour the visitors got a fourth, Louis Simmons with that one, but finally the hosts roused themselves and Sloots struck again to make it two-four- and it was game on as Kyran Clements brought it back to three-four. Could they? They couldn’t, and Wroxham held on to go second.

Hashtag United, Wroxham and Gorleston are all tied at the top on twenty points, with Redbridge and Newmarket Town a point further back.

Cambridge City have had a generally positive start to the campaign, winning four of six, but needed to recover from defeat against Gorleston the last time they were in League action. City were taking on Mulbarton Wanderers on the road, and they went ahead just after the quarter hour mark, Fletcher Toll scoring for the eighth time in thirteen matches. Ryan Fryatt doubled the lead just before half time, but twelve minutes into the second half Ashley Jarvis got Wanderers back into the match. Sadly for the home fans, however, that was as good as it was to get- and City are up to seventh.

Little Oakley were at home to a Fakenham Town side who were still looking for a first win, but the visitors ghosted in front on twenty five minutes courtesy of Emmanuel Okpiabhele. They weren’t ahead for long, Tobias Braney quickly levelling from the spot, and two minutes after half time it was the hosts who had the advantage, Luke Hipkin scoring from the spot. They didn’t have the advantage for long, however, Finley Whiteley taking two minutes to level, but Oakley were ahead again twenty minutes from time, Daniel Keeble with the evening’s fifth goal, and this time they held on and took all of the points. Little Oakley are fourteenth, Fakenham six points from safety.

Brightlingsea Regent and Lowestoft Town desperately needed the points as they faced off at the Taydal, and it was Regent who finally made a breakthrough five minutes before half time, Dan Rowe with the opener. They quickly added a second just before the break, Joseph Watson doubling their lead, and seven minutes into the second half Luca Terminiello terminated the Trawler Boys hopes with a third. Regent added a fourth ten minutes from time, Ben Sergeant with that one, and quickly had a fifth, too, though Emmanuel Zion. That was that, a first win of the season for Regent, who close to within two points of safety.

Witham Town were the hosts for a Newmarket Town side who were looking for a sixth successive win. Goalless at half time, the Jockeys went ahead just before the hour, Elliott Reeves the scorer, and Oscar Dean scored from the spot to make it two six minutes later- and that was how it ended, a super seven in a row for the Jockeys, who are fifth in the table. Buckhurst Hill welcomed Tilbury, but the first half didn’t welcome a goal. The second half, however, did, Max Gnandi scoring for Hill on sixty three minutes, and they weren’t ahead for long, Ben Allen quickly equalising for the Dockers. Three minutes from time Gnandi struck again, but again the Dockers didn’t lie down, and in added time Malaki Toussaint made it two-two. Neither side had time to find a winner, and had to settle for a point.

Walthamstow brought Bowers and Pitsea to East London. The first major talking point was a red card for the hosts Jared Small thirteen minutes from time- the substitute had only been on the field for twenty seven minutes- but it was the ten men who kicked on from that and took the lead five minutes from time, Joden Trickett the scorer. Three points remained at home- and Stow are up to twelfth, two point behind their now ninth place visitors.

Canvey Island and Takeley kicked off fifteen minutes late and the first half was goalless, but we didn’t have to wait long after the break for someone to open the scoring, and that someone was Ross Wall for the hosts. Right at the end Conor Hubble added a second, confirming a first win in seven and lifting the Gulls out of the bottom four.
