Supporters Predictions 24-25: Lancing

We're off to Lancing, with Barry Sutton as our guide

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

We’re off to Culver Road, courtesy of Barry- who loves a Baggies Burger!

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

A couple stand out – the second half in the 4-2 win against Ramsgate was probably the best 45 minutes from a Lancing side I have ever seen and saw us win the ‘performance of the month’ trophy. I also enjoyed the 4-0 win at home to Three Bridges, who were top of the league at the time, which made a few people sit up and take notice. I think that was the game that announced us as being play-off contenders and a team that should be taken seriously.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Away at Horndean. Our 9 men worked really hard to secure a 1-1 draw but the reason we were down to 9 men is still hard to swallow. I had better not say anything further or I’ll get myself into trouble.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

George Taggart got my player of the season vote last season. He’s a skilful, hard working player who is an excellent passer of the ball and very creative. He’s gone to Whitehawk this season and I wish him well in the Premier Division, he certainly has the talent to make the step up.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

They are still very much bedding into the team and learning to play with each other but there are some talented players out there. Tyreese Sutherland will get the crowd out of their seats and fan favourite Harrison Parker gives us some bite and experience at the back.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I think we’ll exceed expectations as we have done for the last five years. I have already seen two predictions which have us propping up the table. However this is a well run club based on positivity, quality coaching and looking after our players on and off the pitch. That, together with a loud and supportive fan base, has led to a tight knit group of players who will do well for us. We have the right manager in place who understands the club philosophy and its DNA and who will get the best out of the squad. I would really love a good cup run this year though!

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

The opening game against Deal Town. I’m from Dover originally but would often spend Saturday nights in Deal as a younger man and the place holds fond memories for me. I’m also looking forward to our pre-season friendly against Dover Athletic. I’ve been a Dover fan all my life and used to watch every home game from the River End until I moved to Sussex in the 1990s, so to go there with Lancing will be very special, even if it is only for a friendly. I won’t be wearing a half and half scarf though!

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

I’ll choose two and sadly neither are in the division this year. Erith and Belvedere is very impressive and in an old school way that I love. The supporters and committee were also very friendly and I hope they bounce back quickly. Cray Valley is another ground I always look forward to going to – it always seems to be freezing cold when we go there but the welcome is always warm.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

Badshot Lea – hands down. We went there in the FA Cup in August so the bar was set very high, very early with their Moxie burger. Perhaps not the best name but certainly the best burger! The burgers there are at a different level to anything I have had at a football ground -  I cannot recommend them highly enough. I’m looking forward to having the Crabble burger at Dover again though – always been a favourite of mine although I doubt my doctor would recommend it.

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Margate, Sittingbourne, Herne Bay, Deal Town, Sheppey United
