The latest of goals lifts the Jockeys
Newmarket Town travelled to Maldon and Tiptree- and the visitors grabbed a last-gasp winner
Newmarket Town headed to Maldon and Tiptree last night still searching for their first win of the season- and eighty nine minutes later it seemed that search would have to continue, before Josh Lee decided otherwise.
It wasn’t that the Jockeys had been in poor form. In knockout competitions they had won five matches- defeating March Town, Wroxham, Ipswich Wanderers, Ware and Sporting Bengal United- and of their three League defeats, two of them had come against our two promotion favourites, Felixstowe and Walton United and Bury Town; but, of course, the longer you wait for points, the bigger that millstone around your neck becomes. Their hosts, however, had a big boost at the weekend with FA Trophy victory over Pitching In Northern Division One Midlands leaders Corby Town, and knew that another win would put them into the top five, so were undoubtedly favourites.
The one hundred and forty two people watching on were not given too much to shout about during the first eighty nine minutes, but visiting keeper James Young was undoubtedly the busier, making some crucial saves- and just how crucial was proved in the very last minute, when Town substitute Josh Lees showed great determination to finally break the deadlock and win the game.
The Jockeys move up to twentieth- and haven’t yet played a home match in the League, something which they will change with the arrival of Walthamstow on Saturday. The Jammers slip to thirteenth.
