Sports boss O'Boyle departs the club

Phoenix Sports manager Steve O’Boyle resigns his post

Pitching In Isthmian South East side Phoenix Sports are the latest of our clubs to begin a manager search, as boss Steve O’Boyle yesterday announced his departure.

Steve's side finished our South East season in sixteenth place, nine points above the drop zone, following promotion at the end of the 22-23 season. It was his second spell in charge of the club- and he was also previously manager of Erith Town, who we suspect are likely to join our ranks next season, as well as Greenwich Borough.

In separate statements, O'Boyle and the club both talked about the financial challenges faced. The club statement can be read here. The managers statement, released on social media, explained:

'I had hoped to continue with the squad that finished the season strongly but, unfortunately, the club is not in a position to do this. Last season, it was difficult to compete with the resources I had available and, with it now being reduced for next season, I feel it's impossible for the club to compete in a strong division. I love the club and it was never my intention to leave - but I feel I have no other choice.'
