A big night for the North pacesetters

A big night for the North pacesetters

Bury, Witham and Felixstowe are in Pitching In Isthmian North action, whilst Tilbury travel to London to try to slay a giant!

Leaders Bury Town hold a one point advantage at the top, and head to North London this evening hoping to extend it- but will also be aware that any slip on their part could see them drop to second. The Blues have only lost one of their last ten, and are five unbeaten on the road, but hosts Harringey Borough, who climbed out of the bottom four with their first win in five on Saturday, are remarkably inconsistent, as capable of receiving a hiding as they are of delivering a hammering. Borough have only lost two league matches at Coles Park this season- but they’ve only won one. Another victory would see them open up a five point gap on the drop zone, and see them go three unbeaten. As for the visitors, only victory will ensure they hang on to top spot.

Witham Town, in second place, travel to take on Ipswich Wanderers. After Saturday’s eight goal thrashing at the hands of Brentwood Town, Wanderers will be glad of the comforts of home- but they’d probably rather not be taking on one of the form sides as they look to arrest an alarming slide which has seen them take only two points from the last twenty four available, and fail to score for four hundred and five minutes. Town, in contrast, are looking for a sixth league win in a row, and defeated one of their closest challengers, Tilbury, at the weekend. Another victory would see them top the table if Bury fail to win.

The sides met three times last season, Wanderers winning two and drawing the other.

Fourth place Felixstowe and Walton United have made their home a fortress. Thirteen home matches in league and cups have delivered thirteen victories, so visitors Redbridge have a big challenge awaiting them this evening. The Seasiders are searching for a fifth consecutive win, a move up to third place, and perhaps to narrow the gap on the leading duo; whilst the Motormen, in twelfth, have won only once on the road this season but have been difficult to defeat on their travels, with only two defeats from six. They’ve only lost one of their last five home and away, but dropped six points against the Seasiders last season.

Cambridge City are still waiting for their new ground to be ready, so will welcome Concord Rangers to St Ives Town this evening. City have lost four of their last five in the league, five of their last six if you add in an FA Trophy defeat, a run which has seen them slip down the table to start this evening three points above the bottom four. The travelling Beachboys are only three points better off after an inconsistent campaign so far, and have gone six without a win in League and Cup. They’ve drawn four of their last five on the road.

In the Velocity Cup Third Round, Tilbury travel to take on Pitching In Isthmian Premier promotion chasers Wingate and Finchley.
