A Final- South East- Countdown!

Three Bridges have completed their title celebrations, and of course have a Sussex Senior Cup Final to look forward to, but they may still have an influence on who gets promoted with them.

Bridges travel to take on sixth place Faversham Town on Saturday- and that’s a match that the hosts need to win if they are to have any chance of moving up a place in the table. That win will need to be coupled with a defeat for Sittingbourne, who currently sit in fifth place- and the Brickies will be favourites as they host already-relegated VCD Athletic. For Vickers, following their announcement that they are to fold at the end of the campaign, this will be their last ever match- which might spur their players to unprecedented heights as they try to go out with a bang. We’ll miss our friends from Oakwood enormously.

At the other end of the table VCD, Beckenham Town and East Grinstead Town have already seen relegation confirmed. Favourites to join them are Hassocks, who head to Ashford United knowing that their survival hopes require them to win, and for Sheppey United, who are two points better off, to fail to win at second place AFC Croydon Athletic. Erith Town are still mathematically in danger as they welcome Broadbridge Heath- but they’d need to lose and for there to be a rather large goal difference change to be relegated, which looks unlikely. 

Croydon Athletic will not be short on motivation, as they will be aware that with AFC Whyteleafe two points behind and Jersey Bulls three points behind- but with a better goal difference, their hold on second spot may be under threat. Leafe travel to Herne Bay knowing that they may need to win to hold on to a home Play Off advantage, whilst Bulls are at home to Hastings United. By the way, Bulls have won six matches in a row, and taken twenty eight points from the last thirty available- promotion-winning form if ever we saw it!
