A six point lead for the Rooks

A six point lead for the Rooks

Lewes open up a commanding lead with victory at Bowers

After four draws in a row- one of which saw them defeated on penalties- it looked as if the Lewes juggernaut had begun to slow down, but the Rooks were back in league action last night and extended their lead at the top to six points with a comfortable win at Bowers and Pitsea.

Bowers victory at Dartford on Saturday had lifted them off the bottom and promised better days to come, but to some extent they were the architects of their own downfall on this occasion. They gave their visitors a sixth minute lead when a terrible backpass ended up in the net, and despite threatening from set pieces were undone from a Lewes free kick just before the break, Danny Bassett finding the corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

The second half saw Lewes hit the post and Bowers the bar, and despite some pressure from the home side the Rooks held out.

Bowers are back at the Len Salmon on Saturday, Dulwich Hamlet the visitors, whilst the Rooks will hope to at least hold onto their advantage at the top as they travel to Potters Bar Town (who are currently playing at Kings Langley).
