A South Central and Velocity Tuesday

Ashford Town ‘host’ the leaders- and in the Velocity Cup Ascot welcome the holders, and we’ve Hayes and Harrow meeting in west London

Leaders Farnham Town are having- by their standards- a mini crisis, only one point to show for their efforts in their last two matches. Tonight they look to extend their three point lead and get back to winning ways as they travel to Ashford Town, the Tangerines currently playing in Cobham whilst their new 3G pitch is installed.

Until their defeat by Leatherhead a week and a half ago, Farnham had gone unbeaten in league football since February 25th 2023- you might remember that we were suffering from a fruit and vegetable shortage at the time and Lidl had introduced rationing, but we believe the two things were unconnected. Town looked unusually vulnerable in drawing with Horndean at the weekend, but we suspect they’ll soon be looking invincible once more, and that their hosts will want to delay any return to form for their visitors until at least the weekend! The Tangerines find themselves third from bottom, although to some extent that might be due to a lack of home matches- only three of their twelve fixtures so far have been played at their nominated home ground. They’ve lost their last four matches, and indeed six of their last seven, the only exception that crazy seven-four win over Kingstonian on October 8th, a match in which they were three-one down at half time and six-three up thirty two minutes later. That result, perhaps, shows what they can do if they put their minds to it- although their fans will hope they begin putting their minds to it a little more often.

The Velocity Cup sees Ascot United host the holders, Chatham Town, and an all-South Central fixture between Hayes and Yeading United and Harrow Borough, two sides who meet again in the league on Boxing Day.
