A South East Friday- and Saturday!
Big matches at both ends- over two days- as our Pitching In Isthmian South East weekend starts early
Our Pitching In Isthmian South East weekend is two days long, starting on Friday evening at Sevenoaks Town. Oaks are the hosts for Jersey Bulls, and that may be eleventh versus sixth but both sides are in very good form indeed- the duo each have one defeat from ten, and twenty one points from the last thirty available. A win for the visitors would take them into the top five at the expense of Faversham Town (albeit perhaps temporarily), whilst Oaks need a point to climb into the top ten (but would prefer three!).
Onto Saturday now, and leaders Three Bridges, eleven points clear at the top, need three goals to reach one hundred for the season. The side trying to stop them are Erith Town, the Dockers two points above the drop zone and in improved form, having won four of their last six. The other sides around the drop zone will be hoping that Bridges, who have won nine of their previous ten, reach that century!
Second place Croydon Athletic seem to have put a spell of indifferent form behind them after winning their last two comfortably, but have a rather difficulty task ahead as they host our match of the day. Fourth place Sittingbourne are the hosts, the Brickies- who are five points further back- fifteen unbeaten and full of confidence. This one could be a classic!
AFC Whyteleafe, who scored eight at sorry East Grinstead Town in midweek, are six unbeaten and have kept clean sheets in their last three, so will be confident that they can blunt the attack of visitors Merstham as they host a local derby. The Moatsiders are ninth, nine points away from the top five, but looked impressive as they hit four against VCD Athletic last time out- particularly hat trick hero Louis Theophanous.
Faversham Town may have dropped out of the top five as they kick off against Herne Bay, dependent on the Jersey Bulls result the night before- but the Lilywhites will be determined to climb back into a play off place. One win from five has seen them slide down the table a little, whilst their visitors have lost three in a row.
Deal Town, in seventh, have a six point gap to make up on fifth place- but they have been going great guns, winning five in a row. They travel to face a Sheppey United side who are down in fifteenth, albeit seven points clear of the drop zone, but who have only one win from ten and who are looking to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat.
Margate have slipped to nine points away from the top five, so will need to find form rather quickly if they are to fulfil their play off ambitions. Two wins and two defeats have arrived from their last four, whilst visitors Crowborough Athletic are in sixteenth, seven points above the drop zone and looking to avoid a third consecutive loss.
Ashford United find themselves in twelfth, and are at home to Eastbourne Town, the visitors two places and three points further back, whilst Broadbridge Heath, in thirteenth, head to VCD Athletic, the hosts six points from safety. The Bears have taken seven points from the last thirty available to them, Vickers six.
Hastings United, only four points above the drop zone, are at home to bottom side East Grinstead Town. Hastings have gone seven without a win, whilst their visitors are twenty six points from safety with twelve matches remaining, and have now conceded one hundred and twelve goals- a goal difference of minus ninety one. Twenty two of those goals have come in their last three matches.
Finally, Hassocks, two points from safety, will be targeting victory as they take on second bottom Beckenham Town- the only problem being that Becks are eight points further back and even more desperate for points! The Robins will be confident after winning their previous two, whilst their visitors have also looked much improved with only two defeats from ten, but have seen their progress hampered by the fact that six of those were draws, including the last four.
