Ambers v Gulls- and Velocity Chats, Greens, Tags and Darts!
Cheshunt welcome Canvey Island in Pitching In Isthmian Premier, whilst four of their rivals are in Velocity Cup action. Here's our preview.
We’re off to the (tenuous link ahoy*) land of Cliff Richard and Victoria Beckham as Cheshunt welcome Canvey Island to Theobalds Lane.
The Ambers, who start the evening in seventeenth place, saw a three match winning run come to an end with a narrow defeat against Cray Wanderers at the weekend, the Wands rather spoiling new boss Mel Gwinnett’s first game in charge. Their home form has been something of an achilles heel this season, indeed they’ve taken significantly more points on the road, but they’ve looked in much better shape in recent weeks and will expect to pick up three points which would lift them as high as eleventh.
The Gulls are in thirteenth at kick off, two points better off than their hosts, and have also been far better on the road than at home, three of their four league wins this season coming on their travels. Perhaps that makes them favourites! Canvey were defeated by Horsham in the FA trophy on Saturday, but have won three of their last four matches in all competitions when on the road, so won’t travel with any kind of trepidation.
Canvey took four points from the meetings between the sides last season, and indeed won at Theobalds Lane as recently as April, two goals from Sam Higgins (now retired) and another from Rob Girdlestone (now at Maldon and Tiptree) earning them a three-one victory.
We also have a number of Pitching In Isthmian Premier sides entering the Velocity Cup at the Third Round stage.
Holders Chatham Town are off to Pitching In Isthmian South Central side Ascot United, whilst Dartford travel to Erith Town. Hashtag United host Grays Athletic at Parkside- we suspect Grays will be rather more familiar with the place than the Tags- whilst Hendon look to quickly banish last week to the memory banks as they welcome Newmarket Town.
