Beachboys held by Jockeys, whilst Regent win in the Cup

Concord Rangers had the chance to go top, but Newmarket restricted them to third- whilst Brightlingsea Regent win in the Velocity Cup

Newmarket Town, down in twentieth, hoped to put their defeat against Walthamstow at the weekend quickly behind them- but they had the formidable task of defeating in form Concord Rangers to do so. The Beachboys had taken ten points from their last four matches, form which had taken them up to fourth- and they knew that victory could take them into the top three- and indeed that a significant victory could take them top.

After seventy five goalless minutes, the first of the night arrived- and it came to Amine Sassi, who added a fourth of the season and a third in two matches, putting the visitors ahead from twenty yards out with a shot that went in off the post. The Jockeys weren’t done, however, and they got an equaliser two minutes from time, Efraim Romanos earning them a point. The Beachboys move up to third, the Jockeys are twentieth.

Haringey Borough’s FA Cup replay at Pitching In Southern Premier Lowestoft Town was postponed.

We also had an all-North Velocity Cup tie, where Witham Town, who remain unbeaten in the League, welcomed Brightlingsea Regent. The visitors took the tie by the scruff of the neck in the early stages, an own goal and a goal from Louie Kudiabor- his sixth of the season- putting them two up within thirteen minutes. Town brought on Josh Osude at half time, and the in-form striker did what he does best, his fifth goal in four matches giving them hope eleven minutes from time, but there was no equaliser and Regent will travel to Bowers and Pitsea in the next round.
