Defensive reinforcement for Invicta

Nathan Green returns to Folkestone Invicta, Sam Smith arrives on loan

Folkestone Invicta announced two defensive reinforcements prior to their trip to Chatham Town on Saturday, with the return of Nathan Green and the loan arrival of Sam Smith.

Full back Nathan was in our Team of the Season for two years in a row, for both Invicta in 22-23 and Cray Valley PM the season before. He was snapped up by Invicta in the summer of 2022, and had a fine campaign, making forty six appearances and also contributing six goals.

He started his career at Croydon Athletic, and has also turned out for the likes of Lewes, Billericay Town, Tonbridge Angels, Dagenham & Redbridge, St Albans City, Dartford, Margate, Dulwich Hamlet and Welling United. He was a big part of the Hamlet side which won promotion from the Isthmian Premier in 2017-18, playing in the Play Off Final victory against Hendon and making another thirty two appearances, scoring seven goals- including one in a four-three victory against his new club at Champion Hill. He left Invicta for Hornchurch, and played eighteen times as the Urchins won the title last season. He has made another eight appearances for Hornchurch in National League South this season.

Sam Smith comes in on loan from Maidstone United, but this isn't his first Isthmian loan this season. He has already spent some time at Hythe Town, playing five times.

Sam joined up with the Stones from Rochester United at the start of the 23-24 campaign, and played chiefly with the Under 23 side as well as making a couple of first team appearances in the Kent Cup before making his first senior starts earlier this season. He signed a new contract in the summer.

He was previously part of the Under 18 setup at Sevenoaks Town.
