Dockers and Blues look to boost their promotion claims
We’ve three Pitching In isthmian North fixtures this evening, and each one looks significant. Here’s our preview
Fourth place Tilbury, who are only three points clear of sixth place tenants Grays Athletic, went three matches without a win prior to spoiling Cambridge City’s opening party ten days ago. They will hope to build on that victory- and close the gap on third place Witham Town to two points- with victory over Walthamstow this evening. Stow are in eleventh, and were in good form, five unbeaten, before falling to defeat at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday. They defeated the Dockers three-nil when the sides met in East London back in September.
Grays Athletic, in sixth, need only one point at Concord Rangers to climb back into the top five- although of course they’ll want to take all three. Athletic have hit a little patch of rough water, with two wins and two defeats from their last four, but they did defeat the Beachboys in September and will be rather keen to do the double over their hosts. Rangers seem to have found an even keel, with only one defeat from their last four, and victory will lift them into the top ten. Postponed.
Brentwood Town put up a spirited performance before falling to defeat against National League Southend United on Saturday, and with two points between themselves and fifth place will be entirely focused on their promotion hopes from now onwards. The Blues, who have won three of their last four league matches, head to Cambridge City, their hosts hoping to avoid a third successive defeat in their new stadium and to start building some momentum after losing seven of their last ten. The last time the sides met, in October, Brentwood were a goal down with one minute remaining and somehow won three-one.
Finally, Basildon United are the hosts for Sporting Bengal United. The Bees are six matches without a win, although they picked up a positive point against Felixstowe last Tuesday; whilst their East London visitors are looking to avoid a fourth consecutive loss- and are only three points clear of the bottom four. When the sides met in September the Bees were in fine form, and won four-one.
