Elliott steps up

Cheshunt have appointed James Elliott as their new manager. James steps up to replace Mel Gwinnett, who left the club yesterday to focus on his health- as we told you here. 

James steps up from his position as head coach, and was previously the manager at Wormley Rovers, stepping up from an Assistant role there to take charge in February 2020, his first campaign ended abruptly by the onset of covid. He remained in charge at Rovers until his departure for the Ambers in September 2022.

The Ambers explained:

'A local man, James joined Cheshunt after a successful spell as First Team Manager at Wormley Rovers. He also brings considerable playing experience, having represented Enfield, Stevenage, Sheffield United and Lincoln City during his career.

James has been at Cheshunt for several years, gaining valuable experience under the guidance of both Craig Edwards and Mel Gwinnett. He has also previously stepped up to take charge of the First Team on an interim basis.'

Chair Dean Williamson told the club website:

“James thoroughly deserves this opportunity. He knows the club, the players and our supporters extremely well, and I have every confidence in his ability to take the team forward.

“He will have the full support of everyone at Cheshunt Football Club as he steps into the role.”
