Four Gulls
Matthew Yates, Ollie Parsons, Chris Harris and Ewan Sanchez are new at Canvey Island
Canvey Island yesterday announced a quartet of new signings.
Matthew Yates, a defender, isn't entirely new to our parish. He has just departed Colchester United, but last season he did his compulsory bout of Jammers service, signing on loan for Maldon & Tiptree and playing thirty two times. He scored in his last Jammers outing, a four-three defeat against Witham Town on April 27th.
He played Under 18 and Under 21 football for United, signing a new deal in June last year. He previously spent some time with Coggeshall Town during the 22-23 season, playing thirteen times.
Another defender, Ollie Parsons, makes the step up after playing for Loughborough Students in the United Counties League Premier Division North. He was a big part of the side which finished third and went on to win the Play Offs, which sees them join the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One this season.
Midfielder Ewan Sanchez isn't entirely new to us, as at the end of last season he made four appearances for Chipstead in our South Central Division. He was previously in Spain, where he played for CD Almuñécar City. He was also part of the Academy at Malaga, and spent time in Scotland, where he played for Albion Rovers.
Striker Chris Harris was a big success at Sittingbourne last season, scoring eighteen goals in thirty one appearances as the Brickies reached the South East Play Off Semi-Final.
Chris spent the 22-23 season helping Bishop's Stortford to take the Pitching In Isthmian Premier title. He made twenty eight appearances and weighed in with five goals- after scoring twelve during 2021-22. He joined the Blues in October 2021 from Halsted Town, where he had a record of better than a goal every two games- fifty seven in one hundred and three appearances.
