Friday Night Football in the North and South Central
A top four clash in the North and a bottom six battle in the South Central deliver our Friday night entertainment
This evening brings us two fixtures, and both of them look to be rather important, if for different reasons.
In Pitching In Isthmian North, Basildon United, in fourth, entertain leaders Tilbury. The Bees are fourth points behind the Dockers, and having won only one of their last four will give vital importance to their next two matches, as following the arrival of Tilbury is a trip to our current second place side, Bury Town. A win for United could take them as high as second place, but they are playing a side in superb form, undefeated in nine matches in all competitions and having won their last five- the latest victory demonstrating their fighting spirit, as they came from four-nil down to defeat Haringey Borough in the Velocity Cup in midweek!
Kick off is at 7.45 PM, as you’d expect- not the 6.45 PM suggested by Football Web Pages.
Into Pitching In Isthmian South Central, and two sides who are rather desperate for victory meet at Cobham, temporary home of Ashford Town. The Tangerines have lost their last five, and indeed seven of their last eight; whilst Rovers travel on the back of three successive defeats. Town are three points from safety, and four points behind Rovers- but whilst victory would need to be of an almost record margin to lift the Tangerines out of the drop zone, defeat for the visitors could see them join their hosts in the bottom four on Saturday.
Last season saw both meetings between the sides go the way of the visitors, Rovers winning three-nil on the road and losing four-one at home. Both sides are much changed since their last meeting in March.
