Highlights: Gorleston 2 Maldon and Tiptree 1

Not highlights, but the entire match, as Gorleston get back to winning ways and the Jammers poor run continues

All roads led to the seaside, as in Pitching In Isthmian North Gorleston welcomed Maldon & Tiptree to Great Yarmouth.

Neither side were in the best of form. Gorleston had lost their previous five league matches and scored only one goal in doing so, a run which had seen them drop to seventeenth, only a point above the drop zone. Their visitors could hardly say that their recent endeavours had been much better, as they had lost four of their previous five, a run which had left them only one point and one place above their hosts having played a game more.

The last three meetings between the sides had resulted in a home win, so perhaps the odds were with the Greens, and they went ahead one minute into the second half as Ryan Curtis broke the deadlock with his fourth goal of the season. He had scored two against the Jammers when the siders had last met, in February, so we suspect the travelling fans are now thoroughly sick of the sight of him! With three points seemingly in the bag the visitors came to life and delivered an equaliser with just four minutes remaining, substitute Sonny Dutton seemingly earning them a share of the spoils- only, as it turned out, he hadn’t.

There were seven added minutes on the clock, but Greens substitute Robbie Sweeney was only thinking about winning the match for his side, and that’s exactly what he did with a last-gasp winner. His goal lifted Gorleston to fifteenth, two places above their opponents.
