Highlights: Kingstonian 2 Binfield 1
Three fine goals- and three points for the K's
Kingstonian have rediscovered their form and begun to climb the Pitching In Isthmian South Central table, but they looked to have a tricky match as Binfield came to call- particularly as the match had to be moved to Ashford Town to ensure that it went ahead. The K’s kicked off with only one defeat- and five wins- from their previous seven matches, whilst the visiting Moles had been on a fine run of their own but had experienced two narrow defeats in a row and were hoping to avoid a third- particularly as only goal difference was keeping them out of the bottom four.
The ‘hosts’ had the best start they could have hoped for. On eight minutes (it’s been recorded as nine but we’ve watched the video!) a long ball out of defence found Eddie Simon outpacing the Moles backline. One touch to control, another to finish, beautifully, and it was one-nil- Simon’s tenth goal in eighteen matches. The visitors had hardly had time to contemplate falling behind when they conceded another, and this one was arguably even more special. A goalkeeper clearance ended up at the feet of Rocky Williams, who was around fifteen yards inside the Binfield half. His first touch was beautiful, and the ball soared over the head of Coleridge Fubler in the Moles goal, making it two-nil.
The visitors fought hard to get back into the match, and they did just that ten minutes into the second half. Nathanael Boakye had a lot to do when he received a long cross field ball at the left of the Kingstonian box, and a defender in close attendance, but he controlled the ball brilliantly, shrugged off the attentions of his marker and fired home to halve the deficit.
The K’s climb to thirteenth, and more importantly put a five point cushion between themselves and the drop zone. The Moles margin for safety is only nine goals- but they do have games in hand over all of the sides around them.
