The Golds hold on to progress in the Trophy

Littlehampton Town welcomed Sporting Bengal United, South East v North. The Golds had been rather short of football so far, having played only one league match- a narrow defeat- and three knockout matches, the last of those a victory in the previous round of the Trophy, a shootout win over Rayners Lane after a two-two draw on August 27th. This was their fifth consecutive home match- they haven’t yet played away from the Sportsfield- and it started superbly, Alex Laing putting them ahead in the very first minute. Laing added a second- his fifth of the season- on fifteen minutes, and although Joe Gregory quickly pulled a goal back for the visitors it was three-one at the break, Rob O’Toole scoring in first half added time.  Nine minutes from time the visitors set up an exciting finale, Brandy Makuendi reducing the arrears to three-two, but it wasn’t to be for the East Londoners, as the Golds march on.
