Hornets coast home- as Greens new boss sees Hendon fall to yet another defeat

Horsham hammer Hendon- whilst Billericay reach the Velocity Cup Semi Final

Shortly after their match against Horsham, Hendon announced the arrival of new boss Ben Bukowski- and they’d certainly showed him the scale of his challenge, as the Hornets hit his new side for four at Silver Jubilee Park.

This was a meeting between two sides in contrasting form. The hosts had lost seven matches in a row prior to kick off, whilst Horsham were looking for a seventh successive win- and the Sussex side got exactly what they came for, and in some style. Evergreen striker Chris Dickson did much of the damage, opening the scoring on ten minutes and adding another on the hour, in in between Reece Myles-Meekums had added a second. That’s eighteen goals for the season for Dickson, nine for Myles-Meekums.

The fourth and final goal arrived on sixty six minutes, Isaac Philpot up from the back to score it, and it gave the top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier table the look of a five horse race, with a nine point gap between the fifth place Hornets and sixth place Chatham Town- and only five points between the top five. Hendon find themselves two points and one place above the drop zone, yet it seems hardly any time at all since they were fighting for a play off place.

The travelling Lardy Army awarded Charlie Hester-Cook the Man of the Match Award- which was a book about the laws of the game and some red and yellow cards. No wonder he looks bemused!

In the Velocity Cup Quarter Final, Billericay Town welcomed Sheppey United- a repeat of an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie from last season which saw the Ites reached the promised land at the Blues expense. The home fans will have been delighted that lightning- or perhaps Itening (sorry, it’s early!)- didn’t strike twice, but they had to work hard for victory, the only goal of the match scored by De-Carrey Sheriff midway through the first half.
