Isthmian League round-up | Big weekend for Welling as several high-flyers slip up
This weekend's Isthmian Premier action threw up plenty of surprises, with several of the division's early frontrunners dropping points.
Enfield Town remain at the top of the table, despite dropping points at third-bottom Three Bridges.
A remarkable first half saw the struggling hosts go two up inside the opening 15 minutes, only for goals from Amrit Bansal-McNulty, Billy Leonard and Tariq Al-Sadi to turn the game in Enfield's favour.
The Towners couldn't see the job through though, Scott Malone earning his side a deserved point on the hour mark as the two teams shared the spoils.
Enfield's slip-up meant Welling United moved to within a point of the league leaders and up to second, defeating Burgess Hill in another six-goal thriller.
Fumnaya Shomotun's brace, plus further goals from Lekan Majoyegbe and Nahum Melvin-Lambert, saw the Wings return to winning ways after a narrow 1-0 loss at Eastbourne Borough seven days earlier.
Burgess Hill's goals came courtesy of Hamish Morrison and George Vorster, but they weren't enough to prevent a first defeat in the league since the opening weekend.
Lewes started the weekend second in the table, but have fallen a place after being held to a 1-1 draw by Maldon & Tiptree.
Harry Mills' penalty put the hosts ahead at The Dripping Pan midway through the first half.
But Maldon responded through captain Tom Eastman shortly before half-time, earning the visitors a point which takes them out of the relegation zone. Saturday's result also puts to an end their seven-game losing run in the league.
Elsewhere, the in-form Toby Aromolaran scored twice as AFC Whyteleafe picked up a big 2-1 home win against Dartford.
Aromolaran scored a hat-trick against Whitehawk in midweek, and continued his hot streak in front of goal to help his side to a third successive win.
Ennio Gonnella's men climb to 14th in the table as a result of their latest triumph.
In the afternoon's other games, a Nathan Young-Coombes brace helped Carshalton Athletic earn a point away at Dulwich Hamlet.
Wingate & Finchley scored twice in either half, meanwhile, to defeat Stanway Rovers 4-2 and climb into the top half of the division.
They rose above Chatham Town, who were beaten 1-0 by Aveley.
The only goal of the afternoon came five minutes from time, Francis Mampolo's wonder-strike helping the Millers end their five-game winless run in style.
The final game of the round saw Whitehawk snatch a late point at Cheshunt.
Searching for their fourth straight win, Cheshunt hit the front inside the final 15 minutes through Tommy Wood.
But in the dying minutes, Kamarni Ryan took his tally for the season into double figures to earn the struggling Hawks a point.
