Jack Lockwood brings us a seaside special
- Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
There are quite a few of them for me! Our Boxing Day 2-0 win over Horsham at home was a brilliant day with 2 very good goals from Dan Gifford and Lucas Pattenden, however our double over Cray Wanderers just pips it for me, the home game coming from 1-0 down to scoring in the 87th and 90th to secure a 2-1 win, and the away game with our incredible 5-1 win, all whilst donning our stupid shirts!
2. And what was the worst moment?
Our early FA cup exit to Burgess Hill lives long in the memory as an awful day due to the bad result and horrible heat, similar to our 6-1 away defeat to Littlehampton however instead of horrible heat, we had the horrible rain!
3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
It's impossible to just pick one standout player from last season, the whole team played a massive part in giving us a good season. Matt Burgess coming in as a new signing had a brilliant season for us, similar to Ryan Hall who was the exact goalkeeper we needed. Dan Gifford picked up our top goalscorer award with 22 goals; it was our first season having him as a signed player instead of loans and it was another amazing season to add to the others.
4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?
New signing Callum Barlow has looked brilliant in preseason off the back of his astounding 35 goal season for Eastbourne United and I believe he'll do incredibly in green and white. The return of Tommy Block, commissioned by the "Block Party" is also sure to do wonders for us next season. Jasper Mather has also shown that he'll do great things for us next season, just like in 23-24!
5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
Realistically, I think a play-off push should be on the cards for us next season. We were pushing last season however we were plagued by injuries later on in the season which halted that. We look strong, with some good preseason performances against the likes of Portsmouth.
6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?
I'm looking forward to visiting some of the new grounds this year, especially Dartford and Hendon as I haven't been to either and they both look to be great! Our fixtures against our Sussex rivals are always ones to look forward to as well, against the likes of Lewes and Horsham, and newly promoted Chichester which looks to be a great away day.
7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Not many can come close to the MKM Arena however out of the away grounds I have visited I'd have to say Hastings' Pilot Field tops my list, great atmosphere, great stands and the fans are nice enough as well.
8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?
Carshalton's food last season was top tier, the steak baguette was amazing! Horsham also had nice food, looking forward to seeing all the food at the new grounds!
9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?
Dover Athletic, Chatham Town, Folkestone Invicta, Dartford, Bognor Regis Town (P)
