Isthmian Supporters Predictions 24-25: Brentwood Town

Robert gives us views from the Blues

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Robert Dodd represents Brentwood Town.

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

It has to be the extra time win at Bury Town in the playoff Semi Final.  An unbelievable night for all away fans in attendance.

Special mention for the 6-1 away win at Ipswich Wanderers.   Yet another great day out.

2. And what was the worst moment?

The obvious one, a second Play Off Final defeat in only three seasons.  Personally think this one hurt more than the Canvey Island reverse in 2022, as we arguably had the measure of Bowers & Pitsea (and our following that day was absolutely phenomenal). Another bad night was the Essex Senior Cup loss at Little Oakley.  Both fans, and particularly players, underestimated the opposition.  We won't be doing that again any time soon.  Most of the "biggies" had fallen by the QF stage, so was definitely a chance wasted to make the Final.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Our skipper Matt Cripps was truly magnificent all season, as was our stopper Melvin Minter, but I'll give it to Mekhi McKenzie.  He made the transition from step 5 to step 4 look ridiculously easy.  A fine first season for the Blues.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

We can't wait to see Rob Harvey in action for us again.  He was exceptional in his first spell at The Arena.  Hopefully can pick up where he left off in 2022.

Having lost to him in the Play Off Final, we know how good Benas Vaivada is, and he could be a key signing this season.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

The playoffs have to be our aim, as an absolute minimum.  Of course, 2nd or 3rd would give us a home Semi Final, and an advantage... on paper anyway.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Newmarket Town.  New ground for me (and I believe for the rest of our fans too), have also heard very good reports on the town itself.  Should be a good away trip.

Cambridge City.  I'm sure the whole North Division community are hoping the Lilywhites are able to move into their new home in Sawston... sooner rather than later.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Heybridge Swifts.  Mainly due to the highly impressive Clubhouse

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

The bacon & egg burger at Ram Meadow is a sight to behold.  INSANELY good.  That's the standard, and now the other 21 North clubs have to try and match it!

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Bury Town, Felixstowe & Walton United, Brentwood Town, Concord Rangers, Maldon & Tiptree

The survey is now closed- and you’ll see the predicted league tables on Saturday morning, prior to the big kick off, with the favourite ground/favourite food results announced on Monday!
