Isthmian Supporters Predictions 24-25: Grays Athletic

Richard Medhurst is our guide to Grays days

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Richard brings us a view from Grays Athletic

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Confirmation we were getting the keys to Ship Lane as our future home ground was pure joy. Lots to do, but hopefully a game changer for us, on and off the pitch.

On the pitch, I'm struggling, frankly. It was a transition season and we struggled, but fortunately new manager, Darren Manning, stabilised things in the second half of the season.. Our first league win, away at Stowmarket, was crucial.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Our performance in the first half of the home games against New Salamis and Walthamstow were as poor as I have seen in a long time, but the loss of our friends at East Thurrock United and, at season's end, New Salamis, puts everything into perspective.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Aron Gordon was the club's player of the year and it was well-deserved.  Skill, determination and goals and all done with a smile on his face.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

All the new recruits have impressed in pre-season. Sid Walker could be the midfielder we have needed for some time now. Kenedi Dariri is an exciting prospect. I'm hoping we will see the best of Alejandro Machado this season - a quality player.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

The league gets ever more competitive and this year could be very open. We look sharp and settled in pre-season, so if we can avoid injuries, we should be top 10 and maybe even challenge for the play offs.

A decent Cup or Trophy run, as every Grays Ath fan knows, is long overdue...

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I'll go for Bury Town. Win, lose or draw, we always seem to have exciting games at Ram Meadow (that will be a 0-0 borefest, then!)

I'm also looking forward to seeing Cambridge City's new ground.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Bury Town for the atmosphere. Also, Felixstowe & Walton where the fans always provide a warm welcome.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

The best food has to be our landlords at Tilbury, but away grounds, it was our good friends at Stowmarket Town  (the homemade cake stall was a real treat). Current teams; I would plump for Heybridge Swifts.

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Bury Town, Felixstowe & Walton Utd, Brentwood Town, Walthamstow, Waltham Abbey
