It’s Final Friday
We’ve a Sussex derby as Three Bridges and Chichester City compete for a place at Step Three. Here’s our preview of tonight’s action
What magnificent seasons Three Bridges and Chichester City have had- and what a final we have in prospect, as one of the most potent attacking forces in the Pitching In Isthmian League hosts one of its very best defences- a side which has kept a clean sheet in ten of its last fourteen matches.
Bridges finished one place and four points above their visitors at the end of the regular campaign, and on that basis- and the fact that they are at home- take the role of favourites. The fact that they have defeated City home and away this season improves those odds yet further, but the second of those matches, away at Oaklands Park in January, happened when City had the joint worst home record in the Division. Perhaps a measure of their improvement since then is the fact that they’ve lost only once more on their own patch- and on the road only champions Cray Valley PM and third place Sittingbourne have fewer defeats, so they won’t be at all worried about having to travel for this one.
Both sides had superb Semi-Finals, Bridges winning at Sittingbourne, City defeating favourites Ramsgate. Bridges last ten matches of the season have seen them score twenty nine goals, whilst City have conceded only nine in ten, and four of those came at the hands of Ramsgate, for all the good that eventually did them. That’s not so say that City are slouches at the other end- they also scored twenty nine in their last ten matches- but Bridges come into this one on the back of a fifteen match unbeaten run, and another win this evening will make it ten in a row!
We’re expecting a large crowd, so if you don’t already have a ticket please get there early. By the way, there is no spectator parking this evening.
The very best of luck to both sides, who deserve enormous praise no matter what happens this evening. We’ll have a report shortly after the final whistle.
