Monday Night Football as Rovers welcome Lane

All roads lead to Colston Avenue this evening- as Sutton Common Rovers host Rayners Lane

Whilst a large selection of our football was demolished by Darrah on Saturday, the two sides who meet at Colston Avenue this evening both managed to play- although neither got the result they would have wanted.

Our hosts this evening, Sutton Common Rovers, were down the A23 in Reigate taking on South Park, and although they twice came from behind to level eventually succumbed to three-two defeat; whilst Rayners Lane, tonight’s visitors, were on the wrong end of a Farnham Town hammering, conceding six to lose at home for the first time this season.

Rovers start the day down in eighteenth, only outside the bottom four on goals scored, and have been far better on the road than on their own patch, with only one home victory all season. Their last ten matches have seen them take only four points, and whilst they’ve struggled with injuries all season they really need to find some positive form soon. Lane have been inconsistent the entire campaign- and their last ten matches highlight that, with five wins and five defeats. Their problem- Saturday aside, and to be fair Farnham have defeated almost everyone- has been on their travels, where they have won only one of their nine away games. Actually, Lane’s away record is almost identical to Rovers home record, so tonight’s match appears to feature a team who can’t win on their own patch versus a team who can’t win when they aren’t on their own patch. Does that help us predict the outcome? Not for one minute!

A win for the visitors would lift them to twelfth. A home win will leave Rovers position in the table unchanged, but it will at least create a three point cushion between themselves and fourth bottom Met Police.

Kick off at Carshalton Athletic is at 7.45 PM.
