Hythe Town boss Sammy Moore departs

Hythe Town have announced the departure of manager Sammy Moore.

Moore has only been in charge of the Cannons since mid April, and his departure comes as something of a surprise. The Cannons statement says only this:

‘Hythe Town FC can confirm Sammy Moore has resigned as first team manager with immediate effect. The process of appointing a new manager to take the Club forward is already underway. The club would like to place on record their thanks to Sammy and Darren for all their hardwork since taking over last season. The football club will make no further comment.’

Sammy took over at Reachfields from Steve Watt.

Best known in his playing days for his successful period at AFC Wimbledon, Sammy was a youth player at Charlton Athletic and Chelsea before moving to Ipswich Town, where he made his professional debut. He played for Brentford, Stevenage Borough and Dover Athletic before his five years with the Dons, then turned out for Leyton Orient before signing for Leatherhead as Player-Manager. His success at Fetcham Grove, where he steered them to a famous cup run and missed out on the playoffs on goal difference, saw him snapped up by National League South Concord Rangers. He left Canvey despite steering Rangers to the playoffs, and became manager of Hemel Hempstead Town, leaving at the end of the 2019-20 season. He joined Potters Bar Town at the start of 2022, then moved to Faversham Town when his Scholars side were top of the table. He left Faversham in January 2024.
