Pitching In Isthmian League- Managers of the Season, 23-24

The Manager of the Season Awards were announced at our Annual Presentation Dinner last night. Here are the winners: [b]Premier Division: Kevin Hake- Chatham Town[/b] Kevin picks up a Manager of the Season award for a second year in a row. His Chatham Town side narrowly missed out on a third successive promotion, finishing second in the Premier Division and then falling at the final hurdle when Enfield Town got the better of them in the Play Off Final, but they had a fine season nonetheless, winning our Velocity League Cup and delivering some fantastic entertainment, with only title-winning Hornchurch (who of course had two managers during the campaign) scoring more goals. Kevin’s side also attracted very large crowds to the Bauvill Stadium, with an average of one thousand, six hundred and sixty eight- only Dulwich Hamlet got more. Congratulations Kevin, on a well-deserved award. [b]North Division: Jamie Godbold, Lowestoft Town[/b] After missing out on promotion at the end of the 22/23 season, Lowestoft Town were very much the favourites as 23/24 kicked off, and it turned out that predictions of their success were right on the money, as Jamie steered his side to a well-deserved title win. They didn’t have it all their own way- indeed, with only six points between the top five it was remarkably close- but they scored more goals than any other side in the Division and saw off all of their challengers to seal their promotion back to Step Three. We’ll miss them next season, but at least they have another trophy to remember us by, as Jamie picks up our Manager of the Season award. [b]South Central Division: Mark Harper, Chertsey Town[/b] One hundred points. One hundred and three goals. Only one defeat all season. A thirty six match unbeaten run from mid September until the end of the season. Undefeated at home. Chertsey Town were deserved South Central champions, and manager Mark Harper most certainly deserves to be our Manager of the Season. The Curfews had the largest average attendance, too! Many congratulations Mark- and the best of luck to you and your team at Step Three. [b]South East Division: Steve McKimm, Cray Valley PM[/b] The Millers certainly had a season to remember. They deservedly overcame the challenge of Ramsgate to take the title after the two sides battled for top spot for most of the season- and they did that by losing only one match during the entire campaign (and we’re still not quite sure how they managed to lose that!). Since their elevation to our level in 2019 they’ve come close to promotion on a number of occasions, and perhaps all that was missing was the guidance of Steve McKimm. Steve has steered his charges magnificently through almost every challenge they’ve faced this season, and as well as their title, he also gave them an FA Cup run which everyone involved will remember for the rest of their lives- particularly that wonderful draw against Charlton Athletic at the Valley. Of course, they also defeated higher-level opposition three times, with two victories over Steve’s former club Carshalton Athletic in Cup and Trophy, and a Cup win over eventual Premier Play Off Winners Enfield Town.
