Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 26-27: Takeley

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see shortly. 

Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

The highlight of last season for me was the 1-1 draw away at Maldon & Tiptree. Going into the game, a lot of people expected us to get comfortably beaten, but the boys showed incredible character, determination and resilience. When Zac popped up with a last-minute equaliser, it felt like a huge moment. It wasn’t just a point – it showed that this squad would never give up, no matter who we were playing.

And what was the worst moment?

Without doubt, our home defeat to Brantham Athletic. They were already relegated and sitting at the bottom of the table, and a win would have gone a long way towards securing our safety. It was just one of those days where nothing clicked, and afterwards everyone knew we’d missed a massive opportunity.

Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

For me, it has to be George Pullen. He’s an inspirational captain who leads by example every single week. Defensively he’s outstanding, he’s always a threat from set pieces and chips in with important goals, and he never shirks a challenge. Every successful team needs leaders, and George is exactly that.

Moving on to your current squad - which players do you think will make a big impact during the 26/27 campaign?

Pre-season has given supporters a chance to see some of our new faces, and both George Sykes and Charlie Heatley look like they’ll cause plenty of problems for opposition defences.

However, the player who’s really caught my eye has been Andre Embalo. Every time he’s played in pre season he’s looked dangerous, full of energy, speed and confidence, and I think he could have a huge season in a Takeley shirt.

Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I’ve seen a few predictions and, if I’m honest, we don’t seem to be fancied by many people. That’s absolutely fine with me – we’d rather go under the radar than have expectations piled on us.

I think we’ve recruited well, there’s a great spirit around the squad, and I’m quietly confident we can push on from last season and finish in the top half.

If you could choose a song for your side to run our to, what would it be- and why?

Enter Sandman by Metallica.

It’s one of those songs that instantly gets people on their feet. The build-up, the atmosphere and the energy are perfect for a team walking out. It would definitely get the supporters going.

From all the opposition players you watched last season, which one would you love to see in your side- and why?

That’s a tough one.

I’d probably say Sam Ford from Felixstowe & Walton. He’s one of the most natural finishers I saw all season and always looked a threat in and around the box.

A very close second would be Sam Robbins from Waltham Abbey. He’s a proper captain who organises everyone around him, leads by example and is extremely comfortable on the ball. You can tell how much respect he has from his teammates.

What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

That’s an easy one – Felixstowe & Walton United.

It’s everything a non-league football club should be. A lovely community feel, a smart ground, friendly people, a good clubhouse, excellent food… and even a sweet shop! It’s always an away day I look forward to.

If you travelled away, which ground served the best food?

If we’re including last season’s pre-season fixtures, I’d have to say Harlow Town. Their burgers were absolutely superb.

From the Isthmian League itself, it’s Felixstowe & Walton again. Their bacon cheeseburger is brilliant, and they always seem to have seasonal specials on the menu as well.
