Robins down the Rams…just!
Yet another late goal at Colston Avenue sees Carshalton Athletic defeat Croydon Athletic in the Velocity Cup
Pitching In Isthmian Premier side Carshalton Athletic came from behind to defeat previously unbeaten Billericay Town with an added time goal on Saturday- and last night they did the same against another side with a long unbeaten run, Croydon Athletic, to reach the Fourth Round of the Velocity Cup.
The travelling Rams arrived at Colston Avenue with an eleven match unbeaten run in League and Cups, their most recent defeat coming way back on September 21st when they were narrowly knocked out of the FA Trophy by Uxbridge. With an attack spearheaded by new arrival Walter Figueira, and with top scorer Brandon Pierrick having a well-earned rest, the visitors made the breakthrough on twenty one minutes, Luke Dreher- another new arrival- confidently opening the scoring after fine work from David Omilabu. The visitors had already had a goal disallowed for offside by then, and deserved their lead, but right before the break that advantage departed as Darnell Goather Braithwaite, after first seeing a shot blocked, made no mistake from the rebound.
The second half was rather end to end, the Pitching In Isthmian South East side going toe to toe with their Premier Division neighbours, both sides having chances- but four minutes into the allotted eight of additional time we finally had a winner, and the expected penalty shootout was averted. The Robins delivered a free kick into the box, and it caused pandemonium, but the hosts had a calm head in the ever-reliable Tommy Bradford, and he managed to force the ball home to send his side through- and retain their long, unbeaten home record.
Carshalton will host Leatherhead or Westfield in the Fourth Round.
