Smith of the Robins
David Smith makes a Carshalton debut- and scores the winner
Carshalton Athletic had a new striker in their side as they welcomed Folkestone Invicta, and he made an instant impact, scoring the winning goal in a two-one win nine minutes from time. There was also perhaps an irony in that he made his Isthmian name scoring freely for the side he defeated.
David Smith started this season at Cray Wanderers, where he played eighteen times and scored three goals.
David is undoubtedly best known in Isthmian circles for his time at Invicta.
He had a second spell with Invicta last season, and he scored fifteen goals in forty four matches. He was previously magnificent for Invicta during the 21-22 season, managing thirty five goals- form which saw him snapped up by National League Bromley. He had originally signed for Invicta in the summer of 2020, picked up by the Stripes after a scintillating season with Ashford United, twenty three goals in forty one appearances- including a four goal haul in one match at Three Bridges. He moved to the Nuts and Bolts from Dover Athletic, where he didn't really get much of a chance to shine.
He came through the Academy at Maidstone United, before playing for Dover Athletic and at Sittingbourne, The 22-23 season as a Bromley player saw him have three Pitching In Isthmian Premier loan spells, with Hastings United, where he scored six times in twenty one appearances, and he also made four appearances for Margate and eight for Hornchurch.
