Supporters Predictions 24-25: Canvey Island

We're off to the seaside, with Alex Gray giving us the Canvey lowdown

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Alex Gray takes on the role of Gulls guide.

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Probably the victories over Billericay Town, or the win at Cheshunt on a sunny but cool April afternoon.

2. And what was the worst moment?

The extreme loss of form over December and January with only 12 points from a possible 30 which included games against 3 of the relegated 4 and another team that finished just above that zone.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Bradley Sach. Without his goals we would be back in Division One North.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

Bobby Mason, who played a massive role at the back in our two consecutive playoff campaigns- he will be an important player for us this year. Same with new signing Finlay Dorrell who has joined from Step 5 club Romford.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Part of me hopes for a title fight. However I predicted that last season and we ended up nearly getting dragged into a survival battle. But if we can avoid the injury crisis that blanketed last season I think that might be achievable this year.  I will settle for the playoffs if we don't secure the title.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

With most of the away grounds I hope to visit being brand new ones to me (or to the league as a whole) these will all be ones I look forward to. However the derby with Hashtag stands out due to the South Essex Rivalry.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

With Hornchurch going up, Billericay Town stand alone at the top of my visiting grounds list. However Cheshunt are just behind them.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

Cheshunt. They did a very enjoyable hot dog and hot chocolate.

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Dartford, Billericay Town, Chatham Town, Canvey Island, Horsham

Thank you- now, who’s next? If you’d like to represent your club please send an email to Ian at [email protected] and we’ll send you the questions.
