Supporters Predictions 24-25: Hashtag United

Matthew Napier plays Tag(s) again!

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Matthew is our guide to Hashtag United- and this looks like a good place to remind you that the Tags are sharing at Aveley this season!

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

The highlights of last season for me were a double league win over Billericay Town, our best cup run for Essex Senior Cup (Semi-Final) & Velocity Cup (Finalist), and 3-2 win away against Chatham Town which ended a 7 match winless streak. Special mentions for Concord, Carshalton, Horsham, Folkestone & Billericay away trips, we created absolutely amazing atmospheres that we'll never forget.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Going out of the FA Trophy at first go again for the third season in row, thumping defeats to Enfield Town (3-6) & Potter Bar Town (0-5) and the worst start to 2024 -not winning the first 7 games of the year.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Nathan Smith was my Player of the Season, he was Mr Consistent at the back with professional performances every week and rare mistakes. His experience was very valuable to the squad which was rewarded with Players, Manager & Fans's POTS last season!

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

So far we have made 5 summer signings- and my favourites by watching them in preseason matches are Jack Giddens and Alex Bolovan. Jack brings 2x league winning experience to the squad, and he's a quality keeper. Alex came from 2 steps below with Fans, Players & Young POTYs in his last season, he’s got creativity and will be an important box to box player.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Reaching mid-table last season was expected by the majority of us. I will be happy with a top ten finish. Play offs would be a great achievement.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

New grounds to visit which are Chichester, Cray Valley, Cray Wanderers (new home), Dover, Hastings and Hendon! The Essex derbies will alway be big matches to watch, and entertaining!

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

The Dripping Pan (Lewes), met all expectations and lived up to the hype. Fantastic ground. Special mention to Folkestone, looking forward to going there again.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

Tilbury

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Horsham, Dartford, Hastings United, Chatham Town, Billericay Town

Thank you- now, who’s next? If you’d like to represent your club please send an email to Ian at [email protected] and we’ll send you the questions.
