Supporters Predictions 24-25: Horsham
Neil Clarke is our guide to the Hornets, who were truly buzzing last season
We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.
Neil Clarke had every reason to be a happy Hornet, and expects that to continue
- Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
There are many, to be honest, and it’s hard to pick one. A record season in many ways with record crowds, a terrific FA Cup run, highest ever league position and Play Off Semi-Final, finally a decent FA Trophy run, and after 48 years a win in the Sussex Senior Cup at the Amex stadium! The one that sticks out however is the 3-3 draw away at Barnsley FC in Round 1 of the FA Cup. Truly an extraordinary night for the Hornets and the hundreds that made the Friday night trip.
2. And what was the worst moment?
Probably the play-off semi final defeat to Chatham on penalties, though it didn't feel as bad as might have been expected, perhaps because we'd had such a great season overall.
3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
For me it was midfielder James Hammond who played nearly every match last season and was so consistent throughout.
4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?
We've been lucky to keep the majority of the squad and strengthen so its hard to pick one player, but I’m excited to see how new signing Ola Ogunwamide gets on after he tore us apart at his old club Lewes last season. He has looked sharp pre-season so far.
5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I'd have to say we should be in the playoffs at a minimum. Always tricky to judge but based on the squad we have it should be possible to get top 3.
6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?
Always enjoy the trip to Dulwich, and Lewes away is a big favourite with HFC fans, but I'll pick Dartford away as its a terrific non league ground.
7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Well I do like Billericay but this season I'll go for Dartford.
8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?
I rarely eat at away grounds - virtually none do as good scran as at Hop Oast- but I'll say Dulwich as I had a rather good Gyros there last season which is obviously a rare bird when it comes to non-league football food!
9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?
Billericay Town, Chatham Town, Horsham, Dover Athletic, Dulwich Hamlet
