Three more Ambers

Three more Ambers

Simo Mbonkwi, Sam Mvemba and Joe Babbage are new at Cheshunt

Cheshunt have added three more names to their squad for the forthcoming campaign, with the signings of Simo Mbonkwi, Sam Mvemba and Joe Babbage.

Simo ended last season with Concord Rangers, where he made twenty eight appearances and scored three goals. The midfielder was previously with South East side Sittingbourne, where he made eleven appearances during the closing months of the 22-23 campaign.

Simo was previously with Braintree Town, and also played at National League level for Hungerford Town and Eastbourne Borough. He previously spent some time playing in Norway, and in his native Belgium- but he did have previous Isthmian experience, as he spent a little while with Bedfont Sports during the 2018-19 season, playing twenty seven times and scoring three goals- and at the tail end of the 21-22 season turned out briefly for Folkestone Invicta, making five appearances.

Full back Sam has most recently been with Royston Town. He moved there from Canvey Island, for whom he signed in November 2022, playing twenty six times as the Gulls reached the Premier Play Off Semi-Final at the end of the 22-23 campaign, and another twelve times- with three goals- at the start of last season. He was previously with Carshalton Athletic, and also had a short spell with Brightlingsea Regent.

He was previously with Aveley, Bishop's Stortford, Welling United and Romford. Sam made thirty seven appearances for the Millers during the 2019-20 season, making the number three shirt his own and playing an enormous part in their run to the Quarter Finals of the FA Trophy and their climb to second place in the North Division. That followed forty two appearances in 2018-19, as the club got to the Semi-Finals of the playoffs. He then moved over to Stortford in the summer of 2020, made thirteen appearances, and was a vital part of their run to the FA Cup First Round during the 20-21 campaign, before climbing a level to Welling United where our season came to an early end.

Joe, a full back, has previously played for Bedford Town, Barton Rovers, Baldock Town and Biggleswade United, so perhaps a move to a club that begins with C can be described as a promotion! Bury Town fans might recognise his name, as he scored for United at Ram Meadow as Town defeated his side in the FA Cup last August.

He has also played for Hitchin Town, and, according to the Ambers, spent some time in Spain.
