Wins for Tanners and Field as the title race continues to simmer
Leatherhead, Westfield and Vale score three to win at home, whilst the Yellas pick up three valuable points on the road
Leaders Leatherhead opened up a three point lead at the top of Pitching In Isthmian South Central with victory over Egham Town. That victory was earned in the first half of the first half, as within twenty two minutes the Tanners were three up. Nathan Hogan opened the scoring from the spot on ten minutes, his twenty fourth goal of the season, and Jacob Breckon took his tally to twelve with the hosts second six minutes later. Mark Waters delivered goal three, and although the Sarnies quickly hit back, Connor Cullen’s twenty first of the campaign arriving on twenty six minutes, that was as good as it got for the visitors.
Westfield climbed to second after seeing off Bedfont Sports on a night which had nearly as many red cards as goals- and it wasn’t short on goals. Bill Montague opened the scoring for Field from the spot on nineteen minutes, but the match was level eight minutes before the break, Joe Smith with the equaliser. The hosts regained the lead five minutes into the second half, Kyle Bailey heading home, but eighteen minutes from time they went down to ten men, Andrew Crossley seeing red. If that gave the visitors hope, it was reduced when they joined Field on ten men eight minutes from time, George Frise the next to see red, and then a minute from time keeper Tyler Tobin joined Frise in the dressing room. The nine men conceded a third goal in added time, finally John Adebiyi making sure of three points.
Harrow Borough, in seventh, saw a four match winning run ended by Horndean at the weekend and hoped to put that immediately behind them as they welcomed Ascot United, the Yellas having taken only one point from the last thirty available to them and starting the night five points from safety. The visitors, however, finally rediscovered their winning touch.
United went ahead on twenty seven minutes, Baback Dehgani opening the scoring, and five minutes into the second half they added a second, Henry Curtis doubling their lead. Dernell Wynter got a goal back for the hosts in added time, keeping his cool from the spot, but the visitors earned three valuable points and made the gap between themselves and salvation look rather more manageable.
Raynes Park Vale and Hartley Wintney met in a mid table battle, the Row looking to increase their unbeaten run to four matches- but their hosts had other ideas. A Conor Lynch spot kick gave the visitors the lead, but Vale were level early in the second half, Chadd Yassin-Sheriff with the equaliser. On sixty seven minutes Jamal Abubakari gave the hosts the lead, and ten minutes from time Ibra Sekajja made it three-one. There was still time for Lynch to add a second for the visitors, but not enough time for them to find an equaliser.
Vale are tenth- a point and a place behind their visitors.
