Gulls, Chats and Invicta host our Tuesday Night Premier offerings
We’ve three Pitching In Isthmian Premier matches this evening, and a Green v Green battle in the Velocity Cup. Here’s our preview.
After a long unbeaten run, the last five matches have seen Chatham Town lose their way a little. The Chats have picked up only one win from that sequence, and have lost both of their last two fixtures by two goals to nil, results which have seen them slip down to seventh, and fall six points behind fifth place Horsham. The Chats will hope to get back to winning ways this evening, but they face the challenge of a resurgent Hashtag United. The Tags are only a point behind their hosts with a game in hand, and of course hit Cray Valley PM for five on Saturday- and with only one defeat in their last nine are very much one of our form sides. They also know how to win at the Bauvill, having done so the last time they travelled there, in January last year- although, of course, the last time the sides met it was on a neutral ground in our Cup Final, and the Chats won that one.
Folkestone Invicta are in eighth place after a fine holiday season, six points away from the top five. The Stripes are four unbeaten, and could climb as high as sixth if they can pick up three points against Cheshunt. The Ambers are only one point above the drop zone, but are three unbeaten. Last season’s meetings between the sides both ended in home victories.
Canvey Island and Potters Bar Town will both be rather desperate to return to winning ways. The hosting Gulls have lost their last three matches without scoring a goal, and have slipped to sixteenth, whilst the Scholars are two places and three points better off- but won’t be if the Gulls can manage a home win this evening. Town are hoping to avoid a third successive defeat. Both meetings last season ended in away wins.
In the Velocity Cup, Hendon head to Leatherhead with a Semi-Final place at stake. Hendon are in freefall, with seven defeats in a row, and whilst you’d have expected some upheaval after a managerial change and a collection of player departures, their form has dropped off a cliff. The South Central Tanners have one defeat from seven in all competitions but have seen a collection of postponements slow their progress- this will be their first match since December 28th. They defeated Premier Division side Carshalton Athletic in the last round.
