Pitching In Isthmian League- Golden Boot winners, 23-24

We celebrate our hotshots!

The Golden Boot winners were announced at our Annual Presentation Dinner last night. Here are our hotshots! Premier Division: Marcus Wyllie, Enfield Town What a season the Towners had- and what a season Marcus Wyllie had in front of goal. He started the campaign as if he had a point to prove, scoring in his first five League matches- and spent the entire season terrorising opposition defences. Hat tricks against Whitehawk and Bognor Regis Town were particular highlights, but we suspect his favourite will be the goal he scored against Chatham Town in the Play Off Final. With thirty league goals (and, for the record, three more in the FA Cup and that Play Off Final goal), Marcus picks up our Golden Boot. We very much hope he gets another in National League South next season! North Division: Jake Reed, Lowestoft Town Having Jake Reed in your team is very much a guarantee of goals. He managed twenty three League goals during the 22-23 campaign as his Trawler Boys side made it to the North Division Play Offs, and he went on to do even better as they took the title last season. He had rather a slow start- an FA Cup hat trick against Corby Town aside- but once he started scoring in the League he hardly stopped. His first League goals came against Stowmarket Town in Mid September, and he followed that by scoring in the next six, drew a blank in victory over Wroxham, and then scored in the following six, too! He finished the campaign with thirty league goals (and, for the record, thirty five in total), and now has a Golden Boot to go alongside his champions medal. South Central Division: Dawid Rogalski, Marlow The man they call Rogoalski certainly deserves that nickname after displaying phenomenal form for Marlow last season- an enormous part of their eventual promotion to Step Three. Dawid delivered a Velocity Cup hat trick in his first match of the season- and after that, he hardly ever stopped scoring! That hat trick came against Thatcham Town, and later in the season he claimed yet another match ball against the Kingfishers, who must have been sick of the sight of him by then. He also took the ball home with him as his side hammered Binfield eight-one in December. In all competitions, forty five goals were delivered- and in the League (excluding the Play Offs), that total was thirty four, and it earns him our Golden Boot to go along with his Play Off Winners medal. South East Division: Joe Taylor, Ramsgate The campaign may not have ended the way that Ramsgate fans may have hoped, but we’re sure that, when they reflect on it, they’ll remember successes that will remain with them for life- and those successes will be inextricably linked with the goals of their number nine, Joe Taylor. We’re rather used to giving Golden Boots to Joe- indeed, he’s well on the way to having one for every room in the house- but perhaps his performance in front of goal during the 23-24 season was his best of all. He hit his thirtieth goal in all competitions as early as Boxing Day, had taken that total to forty by mid March, and ended the campaign having scored fifty three- taking our Golden Boot by delivering forty two of those in the League. He scored League hat tricks against Phoenix Sports (indeed, he got four in that victory), Lancing, East Grinstead Town and Chichester City- and, of course, got a hat trick against Bexhill United in the FA Cup too. Many congratulations to Joe for…well, just being Joe! [i]Follow the Pitching In Isthmian League on Instagram.
