Supporters Predictions 24-25: Merstham
Craig Richardson takes us to Merstham
We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

- Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
Merstham travelling by coach to Ramsgate and returning with all 3 points. At that point Ramsgate were unbeaten at home and top of the league. We were somewhere near the bottom of the league and had nothing to lose. The team, along with our fans, were brilliant and we fully deserved the win. It was a great coach trip home. Sheppey away was very similar where we came away with all 3 points. You can't beat a great away day.
2. And what was the worst moment?
On a wet and windy night away to Broadbridge Heath. It was a crazy game. 6-6 in the end. The weather was atrocious all game. We were 3 -1 up, 4-3 up, 5-4 up and then went 6-5 down. Even though we equalised last minute I just thought it was a game we should have won and remember feeling so angry. The weather played a huge part though.
3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
None other than our captain, Dean Gunner. I lost the amount of times he made important tackles that got us points in games. He also chipped in with a few goals as well, one being a memorable scissor kick goal against Sevenoaks. Not bad for an ageing centre back (sorry Dean).
4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?
Goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey is going to be a massive plus for us. To have a goalkeeper of his quality and experience is going to really help us.
Of the outfield players that I've seen I think Sam King is going to bring us extra goals from midfield. I could mention more but we've got so many players with good ability all over the pitch. With a relatively small squad it is great that we will have good competition for places.
5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
Our aim will be top half but I think we can make the playoffs. For the first time in a while we've managed to retain the majority of our players from the previous season, plus and most importantly, the manager! With the players we've added as well, I think we can have a really positive season.
6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?
Any away game travelling by coach! Our supporter base has really grown over the last couple of years and the relationship we have with the players is brilliant. The coach journeys home are always good, especially when we win.
I know the players really appreciate our support so we'll make sure we are loud as ever this season.
7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Ramsgate for me. Obviously we had a good day out there but it's a decent place to watch football. I enjoyed visiting Sheppey as well.
8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?
Personally I didn't eat much at away grounds (liquid diet) but I've been told the pies at Littlehampton were pretty tasty. Also Chichester's food was 'banging' apparently.
9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?
Ramsgate, Ashford United, Sheppey United, Sittingbourne, Merstham
